    <title>Call for participants for a workshop in Cyprus on Facilitating Dialogue Circles</title>
    <link>https://activecitizensfund.cy/News/ID/117/Call-for-participants-for-a-workshop-in-Cyprus-on-Facilitating-Dialogue-Circles</link>
    <description>Are you a civic activist eager to enhance your dialogue skills and foster democratic conversations in your community? We are seeking twelve (12) participants from Cyprus, to attend a 1.5-day workshop on the facilitation of Dialogue Circles, conducted by experts from LAMPA Conversation Festival in Latvia.

The Fund Operators of the Active Citizens Fund programme in Cyprus and Latvia are co-organising a workshop with the aim to inspire, heal, and build more democratic and tolerant societies, through the Dialogue Method. Dialogue is a method of democratic conversation that enables individuals to better understand the topic at hand, other people&amp;#39;s thoughts, and their own positions. It is a powerful tool for achieving new solutions and insights collectively while maintaining a human connection. Unlike debates, discussions, or consensus-building, dialogue does not aim to prove a point or achieve unanimity. Instead, it seeks to explore different perspectives and foster mutual understanding. The concept and the method was developed in Finland under the name Timeout dialogue (www.timeoutdialogue.fi) and has been successfully adapted and implemented in Latvia by DOTS Foundation for an Open Society and LAMPA Conversation festival in Latvia.

&amp;nbsp;

The Dialogue Method allows to:

 Understand Better: Grasp the topic, your own thoughts, and others&amp;#39; views more deeply.
 Promote Respectful Conversations: Move away from debates and discussions towards meaningful dialogues.
 Build Democratic Values: Contribute to a culture of respectful and insightful conversations in your community.
 Foster Intercultural Dialogue and Promote Tolerance: Dialogue Circles create a safe space for individuals from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and perspectives, helping to break down cultural barriers and promote mutual respect and understanding. This process is essential for fostering tolerance and building cohesive, inclusive communities.

    <link>https://activecitizensfund.cy/News/ID/106/July-Project-of-the-Month-ReAct-Together</link>
    <description>Our project of the month for July is&amp;nbsp;&amp;quot;ReAct Together - Empowering and including vulnerable groups in to the society through applied drama&amp;rdquo;,&amp;nbsp;funded under the Active Citizens Fund programme in Cyprus and implemented by Motivation in Arts - MiA.

The main objective of the project is to identify groups of vulnerable young people which are potentially facing social exclusion, and collect data necessary to investigate and evaluate their rights and needs in order to enable their social inclusion and equality. Additionally, the project aims to train and raise awareness of individuals and organisations dealing with vulnerable groups of young people, proposing them a new method of approaching and integrating young people, based on theatre techniques.

As part of the project, live interactive theatre performances took place in Paphos, as well as a roundtable discussion in June 2023 to exchange views between social workers, professionals, volunteers, students and citizens who are involved in the integration of vulnerable groups in Cypriot society. The discussion will be followed by capacity building workshops on using applied theatre as a social tool. Keep track of project activities here.

    <title>Announcement of the allocation of financial support to Civil Society Organisations under the Active Citizens Fund Cyprus Programme </title>
    <link>https://activecitizensfund.cy/News/ID/17/Announcement-of-the-allocation-of-financial-support-to-Civil-Society-Organisations-under-the-Active-Citizens-Fund-Cyprus-Programme</link>
    <description>NGO Support Centre and GrantXpert Consulting Ltd, in their capacity as the Fund Operator of the Active Citizens Fund Programme in Cyprus, are delighted to announce the Civil Society Organisations that have been selected to be funded under the programme&amp;rsquo;s Open Call (2021). With a total available funding of &amp;euro;1,165,000, the selected projects will contribute to the Call objectives, to increase citizens&amp;rsquo; participation in civic activities, empower vulnerable groups and enhance the capacity and sustainability of civil society.&amp;nbsp;

The Active Citizens Fund is part of the EEA Financial Mechanism (EEA &amp;amp; Norway Grants) for the period of 2014-2021, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. The Active Citizens Fund Cyprus programme seeks to develop the long-term sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector, strengthening its role in promoting democratic participation, active citizenship, and human rights through the financial support of projects that boost collaboration, development and learning for the sector and the above topics.&amp;nbsp;

A total of 17 projects have been selected for funding from the 54 total applications that were submitted in response to the programme&amp;rsquo;s Open Call (2021). From the projects selected for funding, nine projects address the Call Outcome 1 &amp;ldquo;Increased Citizen Participation in Civic Activities&amp;rdquo; while the other eight projects address the Call Outcome 2 &amp;ldquo;Vulnerable groups empowered&amp;rdquo;. All selected projects propose activities that satisfy the mandatory Call Outcome 3 &amp;ldquo;Enhanced capacity and sustainability of civil society (organisations and the sector)&amp;rdquo; ensuring that the programme will support the strengthening of the capacity of the civil society sector in Cyprus. There are eight funded projects that include a bicommunal partnership, contributing to the programme&amp;rsquo;s priority to actively support bicommunal cooperation and projects that foster intercultural dialogue. Additionally, four projects will be implemented through a bilateral partnership, involving CSOs from two of the donor states, Norway and Liechtenstein.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

All stages of the selection process have been monitored by the Fund Operator to ensure that the process was in accordance with the programme rules and that transparency and fair assessment was maintained throughout. All eligible applications were scored by two independent experts, with experience in the field, and ranked according to their average score. The final ranking of projects was reviewed and approved by the Selection Committee which included members that were external to the Fund Operator and in which a representative of the National Focal Point of EEA &amp;amp; Norway Grants in Cyprus participated as an observer.&amp;nbsp;

The list of the projects selected for funding, with an overall grant allocation of &amp;euro;1,165,000, can be found here.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

The Fund Operator has the pleasure of noting the diversity of the projects that will be funded by the Active Citizens Fund in Cyprus both in terms of their thematic focus as well as their target groups. Funded activities are expected to benefit vulnerable groups in Cyprus including women, victims of domestic abuse, refugees and migrants, artists, the elderly and youth among others. The selected projects seek to promote citizens&amp;rsquo; participation and empower vulnerable groups by intervening in various areas such as sexual health, environmental awareness, social inclusion, digital upskilling, intergenerational exchange and arts-based community building. The Fund Operator looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with grantees that will have a positive and lasting impact in developing the capacity and sustainability of the civil society sector in Cyprus.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;

    <link>https://activecitizensfund.cy/News/ID/13/Civil-Society-Starts-with-You</link>
    <description>Civil society starts with you!&amp;nbsp;

Human rights, freedom, human dignity, equality, democracy and rule of law. These are the values that unite us. They are noble, shared ideals &amp;mdash; the bedrock of a diverse modern society. And it&amp;rsquo;s up to us to protect them, together. But the practical, day-to-day reality can be hard work. It starts with the people who want to make a difference for their community. People who are committed to shaping our world.

Visit the EEA &amp;amp; Norway Grants website and learn how we can create a vibrant, active society together. You can&amp;nbsp;get inspired by stories and people and learn how you can contribute and be more engaged:&amp;nbsp;https://bit.ly/3Aw2L1d
