Conversation Cafe Cyprus

Short Descrition: Conversation Cafe Cyprus was initiated in October 2019 by Charis Charalambous (she/her), a Greek-speaking Cypriot, and Gülşen Kadri (she/her), a Turkish-speaking Cypriot, with the purpose of creating the space for people from the multiple communities living in Cyprus and overseas to engage in meaningful conversations about topics that matter and which fall beyond the realm of typical chit-chat. Twenty-seven (27) events have been organized in 2 years. In a diverse, changing world, we all need opportunities to listen and connect in a spirit of curiosity, respect and warmth and in effect create social capital through shared knowledge, new connections and trust. The meetings are based on principles of open-mindedness, acceptance, curiosity, discovery and sincerity. The Conversation Cafe Cyprus events follow a methodology of facilitated dialogue for a total of 2 hours. They take place in selected physical locations (e.g. cafés) across the island - and virtually on Zoom if needed - and engage up to about 20 persons every time. Through carefully selected activities and questions, the persons that attend the meetings get to know the other participants, share ideas and feelings on various (democratically selected) topics and reflect on their experience of the conversation. Participation to the events is free. The deeper conversation questions that are discussed in the events (different questions every time) are shared on the initiative’s Facebook and Instagram pages (Conversation Cafe Cyprus).

Short Descrition: Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation (KOKEN) is the coordinating body of 75 Youth Clubs in Cyprus with more than 4000 members in urban and rural areas of the Republic of Cyprus. The main aim of KOKEN is to offer opportunities to young Cypriots to develop their skills and attitudes and to promote active participation in local, national and international level. KOKEN supports permanent and periodic activities of the youth clubs in the following fields: sports, culture, non-formal education, European projects, health prevention, human rights, environment and volunteering. We have solid experience in the implementation of various European projects in the past 6 years. We have implemented Youth in Action projects, Grundtvig project and we have participated in various projects abroad as well. The impact of our activities and projects reaches almost every corner of the Republic of Cyprus because of the number of youth clubs and the network of partner organisations. Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation is a member of the counselling body of the Youth Board of Cyprus and an active member of the Cyprus Youth Council. At the European level, KOKEN is a member of the European Confederation of Youth Clubs (ECYC).
