Are you a civic activist eager to enhance your dialogue skills and foster democratic conversations in your community? We are seeking twelve (12) participants from Cyprus, to attend a 1.5-day workshop on the facilitation of Dialogue Circles, conducted by experts from LAMPA Conversation Festival in Latvia.
The Fund Operators of the Active Citizens Fund programme in Cyprus and Latvia are co-organising a workshop with the aim to inspire, heal, and build more democratic and tolerant societies, through the Dialogue Method. Dialogue is a method of democratic conversation that enables individuals to better understand the topic at hand, other people's thoughts, and their own positions. It is a powerful tool for achieving new solutions and insights collectively while maintaining a human connection. Unlike debates, discussions, or consensus-building, dialogue does not aim to prove a point or achieve unanimity. Instead, it seeks to explore different perspectives and foster mutual understanding. The concept and the method was developed in Finland under the name Timeout dialogue (www.timeoutdialogue.fi) and has been successfully adapted and implemented in Latvia by DOTS Foundation for an Open Society and LAMPA Conversation festival in Latvia.
The Dialogue Method allows to:
- Understand Better: Grasp the topic, your own thoughts, and others' views more deeply.
- Promote Respectful Conversations: Move away from debates and discussions towards meaningful dialogues.
- Build Democratic Values: Contribute to a culture of respectful and insightful conversations in your community.
- Foster Intercultural Dialogue and Promote Tolerance: Dialogue Circles create a safe space for individuals from diverse backgrounds to share their experiences and perspectives, helping to break down cultural barriers and promote mutual respect and understanding. This process is essential for fostering tolerance and building cohesive, inclusive communities.
